Rome (May 19, 2010) – Pope Benedict XVI received participants of the pilgrimage of the Catholic University in Rome- teachers, students and friends on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the university. The Holy Father spoke to pilgrims during the audience at Saint Peter’s Square in Rome: “ I warmly welcome the pilgrimage of the Catholic University from Ružomberok lead by the great Chancellor, Archbishop Alojz Tkáč. I am also greeting fathers bishops František Tondra, Tomáš Galis, representatives of University, students, employees and the Jubilus Choir. Brothers and sisters, we are celebrating the feast of Pentecost. Let us pray God for invocation of gifts of the Holy Spirit to be brave witnesses of Christ. I am blessing you from my whole heart.
After the final blessing, father bishops, rector and vice-rectors personally greeted Pope. Rector of the Catholic University, Prof. Tadeusz Zasępa on behalf of the whole academic community expressed the support and regard to Holy Father and he was awarded the Great Medal of Catholic University.
Zenon Grocholewski, Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education, received pilgrims before the audience of Pope. Rector of the Catholic University informed the prefect about activities and results of the university and handed him the Annual Report of the University in 2009 together with the publication of the town Ružomberok. Zenon Grocholewski congratulated the university to its results during the first ten years. Jozef Dravecký, Ambassador of Slovakia to the Holy See, accompanied prilgrims and hosted Jozef Cardinal Tomko, Archbishop Alojz Tkáč, bishops František Tondra and Tomáš Galis together with representatives of University at the Embassy. |
