Support for foreign students as part of the university's internationalization efforts

On Thursday, the program took place in a festive and formal environment. We warmly welcomed our new students in the university library, where we introduced them to the history, mission, and structure of the university, as well as the individual faculties and services available to them during their studies. We also provided practical information about the study process, academic calendar, accommodation options, and staying in Slovakia.
The programme was complemented by a tour of the university campus, during which the students were accompanied by their buddy students—participants in the student support program. We ended the day with a joint lunch, which provided an opportunity for initial informal conversations and getting to know each other.
Activities focused on developing intercultural competence and teamwork took place on Friday afternoon. Following a brief lecture on cultural differences and international communication, students collaborated to prepare playful team-building activities. Through competitions, creative tasks, and language games, participants practiced not only communication skills in English and Slovak but also the ability to cooperate and find creative solutions. We spent the entire afternoon in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, which quickly broke down initial barriers and strengthened team spirit.
On Monday, we concluded the programme with an educational trip to the Orava region. The students visited the Orava Village Museum in Zuberec and Orava Castle, where they had the opportunity to learn about the rich history, traditions, and cultural heritage of Slovakia. The atmosphere was complemented by a traditional Slovak lunch, during which students could taste regional specialities and learn about the country's gastronomic customs.
Both foreign students and buddy volunteers responded positively to the adaptation days. Participants took away many new friendships, valuable experiences, and practical knowledge about life and study in Slovakia.
The event confirmed that personal and cultural support plays a key role in the successful integration of foreign students and contributes to the creation of an inclusive and open academic environment, which is one of the strategic goals of our university's internationalisation.
