The Department of Nursing was established in 2002 as one of the first departments of that- time Institut of Health and Social Work at Pedagogical faculty in Catholic University in Ružomberok. It has been preparing future nurses within theoretical and practical teaching process in the specialization of nursing since 2002 in bachelor study program, and since 2005 in master study program and since 2011 also in PhD study program. Currently there are professors, associate professors (docents), lecturers and assistant lecturers who except of pedagogical activities contribute also to scientific project solutions, publishing activities in homeland and abroad, they participate in teacher mobilities in partnership universities abroad, in copperation with the students they participate in many out of school activities, mainly around the town of Ružomberok. The Department of Nursing closely cooperates in students’ specialized practice with Central Military Hospital of Slovak National Uprising - Faculty hospital in Ružomberok, with agencies of home nursing care, as well with ambulances of general practitioners for children, adults and adolescents.

Bachelor study program in „Nursing“ is aimed at preparation of professional employee to perform nurse occupation. The nurse profession is considered as the key one in protection, support and return of patient’s health. The graduate of bachelor study can work as a nurse in inpatient care departments of medical institutions, in general and specialized ambulance care, in agencies of home nurse care and in institutions of social care. He/she participates in nursing care, and patient education. He/she can perform the independent nursing practice within valid legislative rules.
