As the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) informed us, our faculty succeeded in the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Actions in the Field of Higher Education: Modules call with its project European Perspectives on Climate, Conflict and Migration (EUPECCOM). It is a three-year long (2023-2026) project with a budget of EUR 25,500 aimed at discussing the current problems of Europe, which include the topics of climate change, war conflicts and migration. The core of the project is a module of three courses on European topics (War-on-Terror across Media: the New Bestialisation of Human, The Big Questions of Europe and Climate-Conflict-Migration: European Media Contexts), which are offered to students in the 2nd and 3rd year of their bachelor study. The courses will be conducted in English, and students who complete all three courses will receive a certificate confirming successful completion of the course in the given module. In addition to teaching, the project includes other activities such as international philosophical Olympiad, discussions with invited guests and various media outputs. An important part is also research, the result of which will be three publications on the topics of the project.

The head of the research team is David Levente Palatinus, and the team members are Ján Hrkút, Iveta Kloptová and Eugen Zeleňák. According to the project leader, "the correlation between conflict and migration has established itself as one of the pivotal agendas to pursue in critical discourses on global politics of crisis, economic theory, social geography, and research on global security. Various disciplines offered insights into the multiple possible ways these factors are connected to one another, yet the order of causality and the nature of their relation remains rather under-explored. Our project aims to bridge the gap between current political discourses and pertaining scholarly takes on the construction and circulation of cultural ideas about conflict, climate, and migration. Our primary focus will fall on conceptualizations across various platforms of the cultural spectrum that map out the ways the relations between these factors are perceived and engaged with. The project lays special emphasis on awareness and agency in relation to media representations of migrants and migrations into and out of specific geographic locations. Through these courses, and with the contribution of invited experts, we bring together approaches that move between and across political geography, migration studies, philosophy and ethics, political theory, literary and media studies, eco-criticism, theories of subjectivity and otherness."

Students of any study programs can choose the courses offered within the framework of the EUPECCOM project already this academic year. The first course, War-on-Terror across Media: the New Bestialisation of Human, opens in the winter semester and its teaching will start in the week of September 18, 2023. EUPECCOM is the third project from our faculty selected within the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet actions in recent years. The project on the Ukrainian crisis was successfully completed in 2020, and from 2022, a project on media literacy is being implemented at our faculty.

Information about the selection of the EUPECCOM project was received from the EACEA in July 2023, and the preparation of the project grant agreement is currently being completed.
