Catholic University in Ružomberok Receives Almost EUR 600 000 for the Reconstruction of the Building of its Faculty of Arts and Letters
(Ružomberok, September 2, 2024) The Rector of the Catholic University in Ružomberok Jaroslav Demko together with the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the Catholic University in Ružomberok Samuel Štefan Mahút handed over the building of the FAL CU to the contractors on September 2. The building will undergo significant renovation in the coming months in order to reduce its energy consumption.
The planned renovation works, which will be carried out thanks to the project "Improvement of the energy efficiency of the building of the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the Catholic University in Ružomberok", which will be fully financed by the European Union through the Recovery Plan, i.e. EUR 575 476.55, will last until March 2025.
The project in question consists of four parts, which include external insulation of the 4th floor, ceiling insulation, replacement of windows, roofing, replacement of outdated and energy-intensive lighting with low-energy lighting, installation of a photovoltaic system and modernization of the so-called backbone of IT systems. The project will result in a 30% reduction in the energy consumption of the building. The project also provides for the environmentally sound removal of construction and electronic waste and for unexpected expenses that may arise from the renovation. Completion of works is scheduled for March 2025.
"I am delighted that with this investment we are also succeeding in fulfilling the Green University program and the Race to Zero initiative," said Rector Jaroslav Demko.
The Catholic University of Ružomberok will mark its 25th anniversary during the current academic year. Although the renovation work on the main campus will take about half of the academic year, studies will be only minimally restricted. "We are looking forward to having our building renovated. I am particularly positive that the roof will be repaired, as it was already in an unsatisfactory condition. Of course, the renovation will require some restrictions, for example, the top floor of the building will be temporarily inaccessible. However, I believe that we will manage the situation together with the students and staff," said Samuel Štefan Mahút, Dean of the FAL CU.
