The Philosophy Olympiad for high school students was held on 3 December 2024 at the Department of Philosophy of the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the Catholic University in Ružomberok. 120 students from all over Slovakia wrote argumentative essays in Slovak. The best 20 of them will go to the second round, in which they will write argumentative essays in English. And the top two from the second round will go to the international competition (IPO), which will take place on 15-18 May 2025 in Bari, Italy.

This year's quotations to which the students had to respond with their essays were:

"Knowledge is no guarantee of good behaviour, but ignorance is practically a guarantee of bad behaviour." (Martha C. Nussbaum)

"The ecological crisis is not just a crisis of 'objective' causes and 'subjective' ideas. It is a crisis of human dwelling in the world, of human engagement with the world, a crisis of human being." (Erazim Kohák)

"Without education, we are in terrible and mortal danger of taking educated people seriously." (Gilbert K. Chesterton)

The traditional Philosophy Olympiad is held thanks to the collaboration of the Faculty of Arts and Letters Department of Philosophy and the IPO International Network. We are grateful to the Jean Monet #101127675 - EUPECCOM (European Perspectives on Climate, Conflict and Migration) project for its support of this year's competition.
