Quo Vadis Slovakia? Experts Discussed Slovakia's Membership in the EU

On the 17 April 2024 a panel discussion was held at the Faculty of Arts and Letters on the topic of the 20th anniversary of Slovakia's accession to the EU. Experts who discussed the topic were political analyst Grigorij Mesežnikov, deputy head of the European Commission representation in Slovakia Radim Dvořák, representative of the European Parliament office in Slovakia Ján Pátek, president of the Žilina self-governing region Erika Jurinová and university professor from our Department of Philosophy Marian Kuna.

The panelists touched on such topics as the impact of Slovakia's membership in the EU on the lives of citizens, cultural integration in the EU or current issue regarding veto rights of member states. At the end of the discussion, the participants had the opportunity to ask the guests questions. According to Juraj Holdoš from the Department of Psychology, it is appropriate to organize such discussions among students also in view of the low turnout of young people in the European elections.

The event was organized by the Europe Direct office in the Žilina region, the European Parliament's representation in Slovakia in cooperation with the Faculty of Arts and Letters and the Faculty of Education of the Catholic University in Ružomberok.
