About the Department
At the beginning of the academic year 2002/2003, doc. Mgr. Rudolf Novodomec, PhD. was elected as a member of the Scientific Council of CU in Ružomberok and as a member of the Scientific Council of FE CU in Ružomberok, he had the task to prepare accreditation of the study field Geography Teaching in combination at the FE CU in Ružomberok. At the same time, he was teaching Geography at the Institute of Management of FE CU in Poprad and Stará Ľubovňa. After successful accreditation, on September 1, 2003, the Department of Geography within the Department of Biology and Geography with three employees was established at FE CU in Ružomberok: doc. RNDr. Rudolf Novodomec, CSc., prof. RNDr. Dionys Vass, DrSc. and RNDr. Branislav Nižnanský, CSc. On February 1, 2004 prof. RNDr. Michal Zatko, CSc. was admitted to the department. The first students of Geography Teaching in combination were admitted in the academic year 2003/4. As of July 1, 2004, the Academic Senate of the FE CU in Ružomberok approved the proposal of the Dean of the FE CU for the establishment of an independent Department of Geography, which began to grow in personnel from October 1, 2004.
Education – study programmes (Bachelor, Master)
The Department of Geography provides study program Geography Teaching in combination, in the Bachelor and Master degree. Geography is often studied in combination with Biology, Informatics, Religious Education, History, Mathematics, English, German, Italian and Social Science.
Department of Geography provides rigorous study in the field of Theory of Geography Teaching (PaedDr.), participates by its teachers in the role of consultants and assessors of attestation work in continuous education of teachers in the subject of Geography at primary and secondary schools and also leads the study of extensive education in Geography
