About the Department
The Department of Management of the Faculty of Education at the Catholic University in Ružomberok is a stable and well-established academic unit that has long integrated education, research activities, and cooperation with professional practice. Since its foundation in the academic year 2003/04, when it initially operated in the city of Poprad, and throughout its current activities in Ružomberok, the Department has systematically developed education in economics and management in line with the value-based and societal mission of the Catholic University.
The core focus of the Department’s activities lies in providing high-quality education within the bachelor’s degree programme Management and the master’s degree programme Business Economics and Management. Teaching is based on the integration of theoretical foundations with practical experience, with particular emphasis placed on the ethics of the modern manager, social responsibility, sustainable development, and the ability to respond to the dynamically changing conditions of a digitalised society.
A significant part of the Department’s identity is its research activity with a clear societal impact. During the evaluated period of 2020–2024, the Department’s activities focused on strategic management, human resource management, environmental management, tourism enterprise management, corporate culture, quality management, innovation, digitalisation, the use of artificial intelligence, neuromarketing, and consumer behaviour. Research outcomes were systematically disseminated through scholarly articles, monographs, textbooks, and conference papers indexed in the Web of Science and Scopus databases.
The Department of Management has long been an organiser of international scientific conferences, among which the Poprad Economic and Management Forum (PEMF) has held a distinctive position since 2017. This event provides a platform for bringing together the academic community, students, and professional practice, and supports the exchange of knowledge in the field of modern organisational management.
An important presentation and dissemination tool of the Department is also the scholarly journal Reflexie – Compendium of the Theory and Practice of Entrepreneurship, which has published peer-reviewed scientific and professional contributions since 2017, with an emphasis on linking theory and practice. The journal is registered in international databases with DOI identifiers and is pursuing indexation in the Scopus database.
A key strength of the Department is its project-based activities and cooperation with both the public and private sectors. Members of the Department have participated in the implementation of national and international projects, including KEGA, VEGA, and APVV projects, as well as projects funded by the European Union. The outputs of these projects are applied in business practice, public administration, education, and in the continuous innovation of study programmes.
The Department places particular emphasis on the university’s third mission. It delivers educational activities for school leaders, cooperates with local governments and business entities, and actively contributes to regional development. Long-term cooperation with the private sector, for example with Tatry Mountain Resorts, represents a systematic linkage between the academic environment and professional practice in the field of tourism. Cooperation with Chemosvit supports the integration of theory and practice in the areas of production and quality management.
Through these activities, the Department of Management creates an academic environment that combines professional expertise, a strong value-based foundation, and social responsibility. It is a place where future managers and economists are educated to think critically, act ethically, and actively contribute to the development of society.
