Daniel Markovič, PhD, is a University Associate Professor of Social Work and Head of the Department of Social Work at the Faculty of Education, Catholic University in Ružomberok. He has led the department since 2021 and has taught social work at the University since 2009. His academic background combines doctoral and master’s studies in social work with a master’s degree in the teaching of history and Slovak language and literature.

He teaches at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels. His courses include evidence-based social work, qualitative research methodology, theories and approaches in social work, digital social work with children and youth, social work with groups, and teacher self-management. He supervises doctoral and master’s research and has guided almost fifty master’s theses in social work.

His research focuses on the digital transformation of social work, career counselling and employment, migration and minority issues, social work with groups, coaching, He is the author or co-author of dozens of publications, including monographs, teaching materials, book chapters and research papers.

Daniel Markovič coordinates the Slovak partner of the Erasmus Mundus European Joint Master in Social Work with Children and Youth. He has contributed to numerous national and international projects in higher education, social work and educational innovation, including the NELCA network of learner-centred schools and a KEGA project on the application of coaching in education. He is the project lead of HuSI, a hub designed to support social innovation with a positive impact on activation and employability, and he also contributes to projects supporting researchers, university staff and student well-being.

His international experience includes teaching, research and project activities in Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Germany, South Africa and other countries. He regularly presents at international conferences, serves on scientific committees, reviews publications and research projects, and connects academic work with the needs of social services, schools, public institutions and local communities. Across these activities, he seeks to translate research into practical approaches that strengthen social work education and respond to emerging social and technological challenges.
