From July 28 to August 1, the election of the new leadership of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU) took place at the Mexican Universidad del Valle de Atemejac. The election was part of a plenary session that also included celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the initiative.

The new president with a three-year term was Fr. Francisco Ramirez Yánez.

A Roman Catholic priest, Fr. Francisco Ramirez Yánez studied theology and philosophy. He served as a professor of social sciences and prefect at the San Martín Seminary. From 1990 to 1992, he studied for a licentiate in the theology of marriage and family at the John Paul II Institute in Rome. He later served as episcopal vicar, rector of the Pontifical Mexican College, and president of the Association of Rectors of the Pontifical Gregorian University.

IFCU includes 240 universities and has been operating since 1924. The main task of the federation is cooperation and promotion of Catholic universities in the world, exchange of experience and knowledge between member universities, and participation in the development of Catholic education in its specific identity.
