On healthcare education in Albania and Georgia

During the week of 2–6 June 2025, representatives of the Faculty of Health Scineces at CU in Ružomberok visited partner universities in Albania and Georgia as part of the Erasmus+ KA171 mobility programme.

Peter Kutiš, Soňa Hlinková, Lukáš Kober and Marina Potašová visited the Faculty of Medicine at the Catholic University ‘Our Lady of Good Counsel’ in Tirana and the Faculty of Natural Science and Health Care at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. As part of the mobility programme, they had the opportunity to get to know the university environment, the higher education system in Albania and Georgia, and the technical equipment, but above all to present their knowledge in the fields of physiotherapy, public health and nursing. During meetings with students and teachers, topics of possible future cooperation within the Erasmus+ programme, as well as other grant schemes and research projects, were discussed.
Universiteti Katolik ‘Zoja e Këshillit të Mirë’ (UNIZKM), in English Catholic University ‘Our Lady of Good Counel’, is a private Catholic university founded in 2004. At its main campuses in Tirana and Elbasan, classes are taught in Italian to approximately 1,500 students. The university cooperates with several Italian universities: Bari, Milan, Rome (Tor Vergata), Bologna, Florence and Palermo, which allows for a double degree recognised in both Albania and Italy. The university also operates polyclinics and simulation centres, as well as a foreign language centre.
Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (BSU) is a public university in Batumi, the capital of the autonomous republic of Adjara in Georgia. Although its origins date back to 1895, it became a fully-fledged university in 1990, bearing the name of the medieval Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli. Approximately 6,000 students study at the university in 7 faculties.
