Staff Week in Spain opened up new opportunities for cooperation

    19. june 2025
From 19 to 23 May 2025, the University of Seville (Spain) hosted International Staff Week, which was also attended by representatives of CU in Ružomberok.
As part of the Erasmus+ KA131 mobility programme, PaedDr. Katarína Labudová, Phd. (Department of English Language and Literature, FF KU) and PaedDr. Martin Pinkoš, an employee of the CU International Relations and Mobility Department, participated in International Staff Week (ISW). Almost 150 representatives of universities from around the world participated in ISW (most of them from universities outside the EU/within the Erasmus+ KA171 programme). Many formal and informal meetings provided an opportunity to establish contacts and possibilities for future cooperation with the host university (Faculty of Philology, Bianca Garrido Martin, Vice-Dean for International Relations), where an inter-institutional agreement in the field of linguistics (English language) was signed within the Erasmus+ KA131 programme. No other university in Slovakia has an agreement with this faculty in this field. However, cooperation with other European universities has also opened up for other areas of overlap with KU in Ružomberok. The meetings enabled the exchange of contacts, which will certainly contribute to the Erasmus+ KA171 2026 application (possible cooperation with universities in Morocco, Argentina, and Malaysia), but also enabled personal meetings with representatives of universities with which KU in Ružomberok has been cooperating for a long time (Albania, Montenegro).

The University of Seville is one of the most important and largest universities in Spain. It was founded in 1505 as the Colegio de Santa María de Jesús and has since played a key role in education, research and cultural life in the region of Andalusia. Today, it is a public university with more than 70,000 students and a wide range of study programmes at more than 25 faculties.

The university covers various fields, from humanities and social sciences, through law, economics and architecture, to technical fields, medicine and natural sciences. Teaching is mainly in Spanish, but some programmes are also available in English, making it an attractive destination for international students.

The University of Seville is actively involved in the Erasmus+ programme and maintains partnerships with many universities around the world. Foreign students thus have the opportunity to participate in international mobility, research projects and exchange programmes.

One of the most striking symbols of the university is its main building – the former Royal Tobacco Factory (Real Fábrica de Tabacos), which is now a listed Baroque building in the centre of Seville. This building is not only a historical gem, but also proof of the connection between the city's academic and cultural heritage.
