    Geography Olympiad of the Žilina Region at KU

    On March 21, the regional round of the 53rd high school Geography Olympiad of the Žilina Region took place at the Department of Geography of the Faculty of Education of the Catholic University in Ružomberok. A total of 55 high school students from 25 high schools in the Žilina Region participated in the event.

    The students had the task of writing a knowledge test and then writing about current problems in regional geography of the world (category A) or current problems in regional geography of Slovakia (category B). Four of the competitors had the task of defending their works or posters (category Z). The first two competitors from each category advance to the national round.

    The quality of the works was examined by members of the Geography Olympiad commission, which consisted of doc. RNDr. Branislav Nižňanský, CSc., doc. RNDr. Dagmar Popjakoá, PhD., RNDr. Pavol Papčo, PhD. and PaedDr. Rastislav Čief, PhD. The chairman of the regional commission was RNDr. Ivana Tomčáková, PhD.
