Gabriella Reuss's online lecture at Kamianets-Podilskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University
On 22 April 2026, Gabriella Reuss held an online guest lecture titled "Internal colonialism and wolfish speech: staging King Lear in the 2010s in Hungary" in front of students and professors of the Faculty of Foreign Philology, Kamianets-Podilskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University, Ukraine.
The lecture highlighted the issue of the stage interpretation of the plot of Shakespeare's tragedy King Lear in modern social conditions and the transfer of plot lines to the socio-political plane of today. The question of lust for excessive power, radical empathy, service and servitude, loyalty and dominance, manipulation of these categories at the linguistic level was raised.
It was held on the eve of William Shakespeare's birthday as part of the English Language Week of the Ukrainian university, at the invitation of associate professor of the Department of English Language Oksana Halayibida, and embodied one of the ideas of the EU's Erasmus+ program -- the development of cooperation and collaboration between European universities in the field of teaching and scientific research.
