Abstract: In the introduction of the report, the authors emphasise the need for conceptual training of teachers, which is perceived as a prerequisite for didactically and methodically mastered implementation of media education as a cross-curricular theme across all the educational areas. In the framework of the report, a reference to the Slovak educational system is made, which does not perceive the media education as a separate subject, but as a so called cross-curricular theme. In the next part of the report the team of authors indicate the relationship between media literacy and other (relevant) types of literacy. It draws attention to the opportunity to perceive media education as an effective tool for acquiring reading literacy (primarily within lower secondary education). The more practical part of the report focuses on the concretisation of proposals for such integration of media education into the core subjects that it seems beneficial not only for expanding the knowledge (of media and core subject area), but also for the development of reading literacy.
