Abstract: The article is a reflection on selected theoretical sources dealing with painting in Slovakia and the Czech Republic at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. These are several key theoretical publications or works that go into the depth of the given issue and analyse the contemporary situation and personalities in contemporary painting in different ways.
