Abstrakt/ Abstract: Society's approach to individuals with disabilities has undergone many changes. From refusal, denial of access to education, to the creation of facilities that, among other things, began to provide care to the disabled and later also the opportunity to learn. In this contribution, we will outline approaches to special educational care from the beginning of the 19th century to the establishment of the Slovak state.
