Abstract: While examining the Parochialia Department, in the Archdiocesan Archives in Košice, the Košice Bishopric found previously unknown letters were discovered from Francis II. Rákóczi, the leader of the largest anti-Habsburg uprising. There are 12 letters (11 originals, one copy) from the years 1694 – 1709. The territory of Slovakia is covered by letters in the files of the parishes of Bardejov, Solivar and Sátoaljaújhely; the others concern the Zemplín parishes of Mád, Olaszliszka, Tokaj and Tolcsva. The letters from the seventeenth century are addressed to the Jáger Bishop Juraj Fenesy, or to his vicar-general, Andrej Szantosi. The letters from the period of the uprising are addressed to the Jáger vicar-general Andrej Pettes in Košice. In most of the letters, Rákóczi appears as the landowner and patron of the parish and concern the appointment of a parish priest. In letters from the period of the Rákóczi Uprising, he addresses complaints from both Protestants and Catholics regarding religious issues.
