Abstract: 

Introduction: Supervision is qualified supervision focused on the quality of workers‘ activities, it purposefully supports and develops the quality of work and the professionalism of the individual, the work team and the entire organization. Supervision has found application in psychotherapy, management consultancy, in the field of social work, education and prison. It is not yet used in the field of healthcare. Considering this, the aim of the research was to find out whether nurses in nursing practice know the concept of supervision and whether they would be interested in applying supervision in nursing.

File and methodology: The research file consisted of 179 nurses working in medical facilities. For data collection, we chose a questionnaire of our own design. The results of the questionnaire were statistically processed in the Microsoft excel 2016 spreadsheet. We used the chi-square test to evaluate the hypotheses.

Results: Based on the analysis of the research results, we found that nurses are interested in supervision. Nurses‘ education and previous supervision experience are related to their knowledge of supervision. During supervision, nurses would be interested in dealing with workplace conflicts and their emotional exhaustion.

Conclusion: For the field of nursing, supervision is a tool for the development and support of nurses. In nursing practice, nurses often encounter a high degree of emotional commitment. For this reason, it is appropriate that certain interventions are carried out in the workplace to relieve stress and tension. One of the possibilities that leads to emotional support is the application of supervision.
