Abstrakt/ Abstract: The authors of this study deal with one of the key historical milestones in the history of Slovak education, i.e. the establishment of the First Slovak Gymnasium in Revúca. Its main goal is to take a closer look at the conditions and circumstances of the school's establishment, to point out its mission and what it has left for future generations from a historical and pedagogical point of view, despite its relatively short existence. This study focuses on the clarification of the geopolitical, but especially the regional situation at the time, taking into account the need for the establishment of the aforementioned gymnasium. In addition to a more detailed description of the necessary requirements for the opening and functioning of the school, the work provides an overview of the premises, material equipment and resources of the school.
