Abstrakt/Abstract: The presented study examines the topic of fact-checking and the need for fact-checking skills in journalistic practice in the digital era. It is based on current studies and focuses specifically on the Central European region and the current situation in Slovakia. The aim of the study is to present the current state of fact-checking methodology and its institutional framework within Central Europe under the common platform of CEDMO. It introduces the main principles of fact-checking and provides an overview of the most commonly used fact-checking techniques with an emphasis on verifying the source of the information being checked. Through content analysis of the CEDMO archive, it highlights the topics of the most frequent disinformation campaigns in the Central European region. Given the important role of journalists in early detection of misinformation, the discussion space is dedicated to identifying the necessary skills that journalists should possess in response to the challenges of today's virtual environment. The commitment to fact-checking is not only a professional obligation stemming.
