Abstract:
Background: Lifelong learning is a prerequisite for the professional growth of nurses, and its effectiveness depends on understanding the motivational and demotivational factors that influence their participation in educational activities.
Objective: To analyze the factors influencing nurses‘ decision to participate in lifelong learning.
Methodology: The sample consisted of 332 nurses. Data collection took place between January and February 2024 using a self-constructed questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was used, including the Friedman test and post hoc analysis with Bonferroni correction.
Results: The strongest motivational factor identified by nurses was the expansion of professional knowledge and skills (x̄ = 1.39), followed by gaining higher competencies (x̄ = 1.95) and opportunities for career advancement (x̄ = 2.08). The most significant demotivating factors were workload (x̄ = 1.95), the need to study during personal time (x̄ = 2.01), and the distance to the venue (x̄ = 2.11).
Conclusion: Supporting nurses‘ participation in lifelong learning requires addressing organizational and time-related barriers, as well as active employer support. Intrinsic motivation is key to maintaining continuous professional development.
