Abstract: In the past year, 2024, we remembered an exceptional personality of the Košice Presbytery, Cardinal Jozef Tomko, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on the occasion of his 100th birthday. In this article, we specifically note his work as a member of the Congregation for the Holy Office, and later his active participation in the Second Vatican Council, and then as Special Secre-tary of the First Synod of Bishops in 1967. With his theses and specific positions, Cardinal Jozef Tomko ranked among modern theologians with modernist tendencies of the "new theology", which was dominant not only at the Second Vatican Council, but in the entire post-conciliar period, the fruit of which is most visible in our times.
Keywords: Council, Cardinal, Secretary, Prefect, Synod.
