Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyze the metaetic theory of emotivism. In the first part we present a division of metaetic theories. In the second part we reflect the historical-philosophical background of emotivistic ethics in the works of G. Berkeley, B. Spinoza and especially the morality of emotion by D. Huma. In the next part we discuss the most important statements of individual representatives of emotivism Ch. L. Stevenson and A. Ayer. In the last part, we try to critically evaluate the metaetic theory of emotivism, concluding that its acceptance in ethics leads to subjectivism and relativism.

Keywords: Emotivism. Metaethics. Logical positivism. Subjectivism. Relativism.
