Abstrakt/ Abstract: The sixtieth anniversary of the closing of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), which the Catholic Church commemorates this year, is an opportunity to reassess the council’s reception and to inquire into its continued legacy. The guiding question of this article is whether the council can still enrich the church today. After a short outline of the history of the conciliar reception, the author argues that in its call for reform and renewal of the church, in its insistence that the Scripture be widely available to the faithful, in its theology of the tradition, in its emphasis on the dialogue, and in its courage, Vatican II continues to be relevant for the church today, in fact, in those points its relevance will never end.
