    Abstrakt/ Abstract: This article focuses on selected adaptation difficulties experienced by beginning teachers when working with students with special educational needs. Graduates of undergraduate teacher training programs are usually not sufficiently equipped with the necessary competencies to work effectively with students with special educational needs. During the adaptation period after entering practice (2 years), the support of a mentor teacher is therefore very necessary to help novice teachers overcome their adaptation difficulties. The article presents the results of a qualitative research study conducted through in-depth semi-structured interviews with six selected participants from among beginning teachers. The semi-structured interviews focused on identifying the most significant adaptation difficulties of the participants and strategies for overcoming them. The subsequent analysis of the data obtained from the interviews was carried out in accordance with grounded theory methodology, specifically through a three-phase coding process: open, axial, and selective. The analysis of the data revealed several areas in which adaptation difficulties most frequently occur: psychological and emotional stress, disruption of the work-life balance, organizational demands, working with students with special educational needs, and communication and cooperation with parents. At the same time, however, it became apparent that appropriate support, especially from colleagues and mentor teachers, can play a key role in overcoming these difficulties and facilitating professional growth.
