Abstrakt/ Abstract: 
Východiská/ Background: Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize and manage one’s own emotions and those of others. It influences our decisionmaking and social relationships.
Objective: To compare the trait emotional intelligence factors of nurses and nursing managers.
Súbor a metodika/ Methodology and sample: The sample consisted of 146 nurses working in institutional healthcare facilities. For data collection, which took place from September 2024 to February 2025, we used the Slovak version of the TE IQue-SF questionnaire by Kaliská, Heinzová & Nábělková (2019). We calculated the total score and the values in the four factors of trait emotional intelligence according to the methodology provided by associate professor Kaliská; subsequently, we processed the data electronically and statistically.
Výsledky/ Results: The overall mean trait emotional intelligence score for nurses was 5.1 and for managers 5.4; with managers achieving higher scores in all four factors. Both groups of respondents achieved the lowest scores in the sociability and self-control factors.
Záver/ Conclusion: Working with people requires a high level of emotional intelligence. It is the ability to establish contacts, communicate, naturally gain sympathy, resolve conflicts, and be able to empathize with others. This ability determines the extent to which an individual will assert themselves with their abilities and skills in a certain social environment.
