Abstrakt/ Abstract: The Franciscan monastery in Malacky was founded by the noble family Pálfi in 1653. The monastery, belonged to the Marian Franciscan province, was an important spiritual, economic, cultural and intellectual centre of the Plavecký estate in the 18th century. The aim of the study is to provide the re-construction and mapping of history of the monastery in Malacky through these individual aspects as defined on the estate and in wider region. It focuses on mutual relationships between the estate (officers) and local population mainly through social and economic links. The spiritual life was manifested mainly through preaching in Slovak and German language, organizing spiritual celebrations and processions, existing of the laical Franciscan brotherhood. The monastery with the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary was an important place of pilgrimage in 18th century, especially on the feasts of the Holy Cross and the Franciscan feasts. In the spirit of re-Catholicization, the Franciscans worked on neighbouring estates among the Haban community. The monastery was not self-sufficient, was economically dependent on the support of the noble family Palfi, and it cooperated with local craftsmen and merchants. It had its own economy and separate accounting records have been preserved. Several important Franciscans (church musicians, historians, writers) joined to Franciscans community, lived and worked in the monastery in the 18th century. There was rich library and archive, which were only partially preserved. The monastery housed the novitiate, where novices from the territory of western Slovakia, lower Austria and western Hungary were admitted and educated.
