Abstract: The life and work of Stanisław Moniuszko are areas that are relatively unknown in Slovakia. The composer's name comes to mind for many in connection with the formation of national schools and the Polish national opera Halka. His legacy, however, encompasses a more varied range of works, as well as life events that have greatly influenced the further development of music in neighbouring Poland. He was not only a versatile composer, active organist, promoter of music, conductor, but also a teacher. Although teaching was a peripheral area of Moniuszko's activities, he devoted himself to it throughout his life. The paper deals with the pedagogical activity of Stanisław Moniuszko, introduces his important pupils and also works of didactic and instructive character.

Keywords: Stanisław Moniuszko. Music teacher. 19th century. Institute of music. A memoir for learning harmony.
