    Abstrakt/ Abstract:
    Úvod/ Introduction:
Burnout syndrome can significantly affect the work performance of physicians, nurses and other healthcare workers, as well as their approach to patients. It can also increase the incidence of work errors and mistakes. Risky workplaces include, in particular, departments of surgery, neurosurgery, neurology, orthopedics, traumatology, geriatrics, and intensive care units.
Cieľ/ Objective: To determine which category of healthcare workers is most at risk of burnout syndrome and what are the negative effects of burnout syndrome on communication and providing information to patients of an older age category.
Materiál a metodika/ Material and methodology: The research method was a narrative review, using which review papers, research with qualitative and quantitative methodology and meta-analyses were selected and analyzed. The total number of documents was 16. The time range was 10 years.
Výsledky/ Results: The analysis revealed that physicians, nurses, and healthcare assistants are most at risk of burnout syndrome. Risk factors include low financial compensation, staff shortages, and increased workload, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Burnout negatively impacts to empathy, the quality of interpersonal relationships, and information provision to older patients. Lack of information impairs digital and health literacy, as well as patient´s compliance.
Záver/ Conclusion: The implementation of preventive measures must be approached responsibly, as the syndrome has a negative impact not only on communication and interaction with patients, but also on the overall quality of care and the occurrence of adverse events in healthcare facilities. In some studies, it also has an impact on the turnover or departure of healthcare workers.
