Abstrakt/ Abstract: The article, on Franciscan contemporary history, analyses the development of a Franciscan community's life, especially mixed communities, and its relationships between the years 1975 and 1989 in the atheistic state of Czechoslovakia. The religious institutes in Czechoslovakia became an object of negative interference by the communist regime during the communist era. They were forced create a new way of living and at the same time to exist in conditions that were unfavourable to them. In response to this situation, a very unique phenomenon of religious life emerged - the model of living together in mixed communities. It consisted of a male and female institute of consecrated life: Friars Minor OFM and School Sisters of St. Francis OSF. They were the only ones in the country to implement this new way of life with specific characteristics. Several questions arose during the study such as: could the close cooperation between these two institutes have contributed to some changes in their own community life, or was it just the basis for their survival? Or - what was the result of this “experiment”, this conflict with the existential question of community/fraternity? The study of this fact has helped in arriving at certain observations regarding the positive experiences of mixed fraternities carried out by both institutes and also helped not only in the human growth of both groups of participants but especially in the search for an authentic and attractive religious life reflecting the changed times. These results are worthy of special attention.
