Abstrakt/ Abstract: Technological developments and global changes are contributing to a shift in the way people see themselves. The study shows how art students approach the concept of the portrait as a representation of a person and how they redefine it in the process of creation. Art-based research (ABR) methodology was used for the research. New media and traditional art practices were used in the creation process. The findings show that students perceive the boundaries of the human as a fluid concept. The study proves that ABR promotes creative and critical thinking and allowed students to explore the social construct of identity and their own boundaries, as well as discovering an authentic approach to portraiture.
