Abstrakt/ Abstract: Constructivist reflections on the nature of history in the last two decades have been marked by shifts in opinion that have had a significant impact on traditional ideas about the nature of history. By questioning the intuitively assumed foundations of a realistic understanding of history, constructivists have been able to more convincingly justify the persistent phenomenon of plurality in historical interpretations and interpretations of the past. Constructivist reflections on history are accompanied by polemical reactions, including a polemical article by Pavel Labuda published in Kultúrne dejiny (Cultural History). In our contribution, we will point out that the idea of pre-formed events and representations, whose significance is linked to some realistic reflections on history, are not essential elements for understanding the nature of history. Using selected examples, we will point out that the significance of considerations about (“corresponding”) historical representation will depend on the field of historical research. In areas of historical research where historians associate a certain idea of the historical process with the intentions of historical actors, the relevance of considerations of “corresponding” historical representation is significantly problematized. In these areas of historical research, non-representationalist reflections on history seem relevant to the relationship between historical work and the past. Although historians and criminologists share the same goal of investigating past events, the differences between their nature of investigations are more fundamental. While criminologists try to uncover the unambiguous course of events, the nature of historians' work allow for a greater degree of acceptable plurality in the interpretation of course events.
