Abstrakt/ Abstract: The rescue collections of art objects from abandoned aristocratic estates were originally conducted with the aim of protecting works of art from looting and destruction, to preserve Slovakia's cultural heritage for future generations. The objects were transferred to museums and displayed in exhibitions. This initiative contributed to the preservation of art objects in Slovakia, but at the same time, it severed historical continuity. In our contribution, we will analyze a specific case of the collections from the manor house in Uhrovec (previously Zay-Ugrócz), which belonged to the aristocratic family Zay. The art objects were transported to a museum, which is still housed in Bojnice Castle (SNM-Bojnice Museum). According to the inventory book, around four hundred collection items should originate from the Zay family's art collection. In connection with ongoing research, these numbers are constantly being reassessed. In addition to the results of archival research, the contribution will present a noble family whose art collections, portraits, library, and archive were forcibly removed from their original historical context in the 1950s.
