Abstrakt/ Abstract: This contribution focuses on defining the textbook as a central didactic concept, essential for the structure of this study and the direction of our dissertation research. At the theoretical level, we examine its structural elements, as detailed by Wahla and Zujev, analyzing and comparing textual, paratextual, and illustrative components and their role in knowledge acquisition. Given that textbooks are a fundamental educational tool with varying quality, we also address their evaluation. Specific assessment methods are presented, including the Cloze test (for readability and comprehension), Nestler’s method (for didactic and content-related parameters), and other approaches commonly used to evaluate textbook quality. The aim is to outline key theoretical constructs – the definition of the textbook, its structural characteristics, and evaluation methods – which will provide the foundation for the theoretical framework of the dissertation. The conclusions of each section summarize the findings and establish a framework for their further professional application.
