Abstrakt/ Abstract: The article focuses on the role of educators in children’s homes in developing financial literacy among children and young people growing up in institutional care. It is based on a qualitative research study conducted in 2024 using semi-structured interviews with seven educators from children’s homes in different regions of the Czech Republic. The aim of the study is to analyse the strategies, tools and approaches used by educators to support the financial literacy of their clients, to identify the barriers they perceive and to explore how they assess young people’s preparedness for independent living. The theoretical part situates the topic within the context of institutional care in the Czech Republic and Europe, discusses financial literacy in children’s homes and introduces selected organisations and programmes supporting the transition to independence. The empirical part presents five key categories: financial literacy as everyday practice, practical preparation for independence, individual support and relational anchoring, social disadvantage and risk of marginalisation and systemic limits. The study does not provide a comprehensive picture of the issue but offers a partial insight into educators’ practice and formulates recommendations for more systematic support of financial literacy and aftercare services.
