Abstrakt/ Abstract: The paper presents an extensive content analysis of opinion articles in Slovak conservative and liberal media, the main focus of which is the use of framing, argumentation, attribution and expressiveness. The study focuses on selected findings on expressive linguistic elements in references to “the other”, with an emphasis on the religious aspects of this form of communication. In a sample of 497 articles, 69 texts were found to contain religious expressions; these were then analysed in terms of two variables: petrification and means of expression. The study explores the differences between conservative and liberal media in terms of whether their expressions are petrified or original and the extent to which they use individual evaluative-emotional expressive means (allusion, irony, image and adjective). Based on these findings, the degree of intensity, emotionality and personal involvement of conservative/liberal authors when writing about “the other” can be interpreted.
