Abstrakt/ Abstract: The paper deals with the issue of gender perspective in alternate personal care of children after parents' divorce. In the theoretical part, it draws on the research of Richard A. Warshak, who traces the development of the principles of child custody in a historical and legal context - from the Tender Years Doctrine to the modern principle of "best interests of the child". An analysis of the development of decision-making practice in Slovakia points to the gradual retreat of the mother's sole custody in favour of a more equal distribution of parental rights and responsibilities.
The empirical part of the paper, developed as a thematic analysis with elements of grounded theory, is based on in-depth interviews with parents who currently implement alternate personal care.
The results point to significant gender differences in the perception and experience of this model. Fathers perceive it as a space for equal parenting and affirmation of their parental identity, while mothers often experience it as a process of emotional renunciation of exclusive motherhood and gradual acceptance of the new reality of shared care.
The core category of analysis was the concept of 'Equality versus emotional stratification of parenting', which captures the tension between the right to equality and the emotional experience of parental role change. The findings confirm that the successful implementation of alternating care depends on the degree of cooperation, mutual respect and emotional stability of both parents, making this model a promising form of post-divorce co-parenting.
