Abstrakt/ Abstract: The study examines the functioning of the Roman Catholic Girls’ Elementary and Civic School in Ružomberok between 1939 and 1945 within the broader socio-political transformations of the Slovak State. Based on an analysis of school chronicles, minutes of teachers’ meetings, documentation of parents’ associations, and administrative records, it reconstructs the organization of the school, its educational activities, and everyday life. Particular attention is devoted to personnel changes, the return of the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul (Satmár Sisters) to the school’s leadership, legislative interventions in the structure of education, and the ideological demands of the regime. The study highlights the ambivalent relationship between state control and the relative autonomy of a church-run institution, as well as the social and spiritual dimensions of education. It also analyses teaching methods, extracurricular activities, and the functioning of parents’ associations. The research contributes to the historiography of Catholic education and opens new perspectives for further historical-pedagogical inquiry.
