Abstrakt/ Abstract: The study analyzes the early modern etiquette manual "The School of Manners" (originally published in the 17th century, reprinted in the 18th century, with a modern accompanying edition by Joyce Irene Whalley, 1983) as representative of the medieval and early modern "courtesy book" tradition. The text undergoes hermeneutic and discursive analysis: it maps its normative ideas about physicality, authority, piety, social hierarchy, and school order. On a comparative level, the study compares these norms with the principles of contemporary Slovak education (legal framework, curricular transformation, school climate, civic and ethical education, digital literacy, inclusion). In conclusion, it proposes transferable ideas: transforming the culture of consideration and ritual courtesy into a 21st century competency framework (social-emotional learning, digital civility, student participation), without returning to hierarchical repressive practices.
