Abstrakt/ Abstract: The Order of the School Brothers (FSC, Fratrum Scholarum Christianarum) was founded in France by St. John the Baptist de La Salle and it was oriented for education and upbringing of poor boys and young men. It had gained an excellent reputation over the decades of its operation in Europe and beyond. The Institute came to Slovakia in the year of 1899 (to Urmin, today’s Mojmirovce). In the study, the author deals with their activities, educational influence, and their significant work at People’s School and Burgher School with the hall of residence (an excellent boarding school) in the years of 1901 – 1950 particularly and thus their merit for cultural development of that part of Slovakia and its national awakening and educational rising.

The study deals with the fight of the communistic regime against Catholic Church and their termination of its church schools in Slovakia (converting them to state schools) by communists and socialists in the year of 1945, too. The paper ends with the violent conclusion of the congregation of School Brothers short after February 1948 and immense damage of Slovak education environment in 1950.
