    Abstrakt/ Abstract: The article examines the use of comparative and superlative adjectives in three Slavonic translations of Caesar Baronius’s chronicle Annales Ecclesiastici: the Polish translation by Piotr Skarga (1607) and two Church Slavonic translations (a manuscript from 1689, Russian State Library, f. 256, no. 15, and a printed edition from 1719). The author identifies the factors of variation (primarily determined by systemic grammatical possibilities) and the contextual features of usage which are related to both the traditions of Church Slavonic usage, the specific translation approaches adopted, and, in some cases, to copyist errors.
