Abstrakt/ Abstract: This paper presents a theoretical analysis of algorithmic polarization in online environments and its effects on audiences and society. The study aims to show some of the main mechanisms of algorithmic polarization, including content recommendation / algorithmic personalization, engagement optimization, echo chambers, filter bubbles/information bubbles, selective exposure, algorithmic amplification, homophily, reinforcement loops, and the online disinhibition effect. These mechanisms primarily contribute to a reduction in informational plurality, strengthen polarization in public discourse, and increase the spread of misinformation. The goal of this paper is to provide a comprehensive perspective on algorithmic polarization and to propose measures that foster a more open, diversified, and less polarized digital environment.
