Abstrakt/ Abstract: The Prayer of Manasseh is one of the most famous individual penitential prayers in the intertestamental literature of the Old Testament. However, current scientific research in this area has led us to believe that, for several valid reasons, Manasseh's prayer can be classified as a penitential prayer from the Second Temple period, specific in terms of its form and content. The aim of this study is to examine the Prayer of Manasseh in its historical and literary context and to assess its position within this genre through genre analysis. The article is based on a study of primary literature by authors who were the first to systematically examine the origin, development, and formation of prayer in Judaism during the Second Temple period. The study points to specific features of the prayer, especially its emphasis on individual repentance, the absence of an explicit collective dimension, and the presence of several unique formulations that distinguish it from the corporate penitential prayers of the biblical tradition. In this regard, the contribution aims to highlight the relevance of the topic under investigation and to bring new insights and information to the issue, drawing on all available foreign literature and the author's own scientific contribution.
