Abstrakt/ Abstract: In the contribution, the author elaborates the pedagogical contribution of Juraj Palkovič (1769 – 1850) in a wider historical, cultural and pedagogical context, while integrating it into the discourse of modern pedagogy of the 21st century. The analysis points out how his work at the Bratislava Evangelical Lyceum, his work in the field of linguistics, publishing and cultural organization transcends the framework of the time and offers valuable parallels with current educational trends. The study uses historical-pedagogical analysis, comparison and conceptual placement in current theories of education. The result is a synthetic view of Palkovič as a teacher, whose emphasis on criticality, language culture, community and creativity still appeals to pedagogical practice today.
