Abstrakt/ Abstract: Since 1989, Slovak education has undergone several reforms, all with the common goal of improving the quality of education. However, most of them have failed due to political changes or incomplete implementation. The current curriculum reform represents an attempt at systemic change, focused on developing literacy, metacognition, and character in students. instead of overloading them with factual content. New features include a cyclical structure of education, an emphasis on individual support, and the interconnection of educational areas. The article provides not only an analysis of the reforms that have shaped Slovak education in the past, but also the preliminary results of research conducted in pilot schools involved in the ongoing curriculum reform, which highlights the current level of teachers' readiness for change and identifies the main obstacles to its implementation.
