Abstrakt/ Abstract: In Slovakia the field of opera directing is not taught. The last graduates studied at the Academy of Performing Arts (VŠMU) in Bratislava in 2001–2006. Students from Slovakia, who are interested in this field, mostly study in the Czech Republic. The author of the article who has been trying to revive the study of opera directing in Slovakia for several years reflects on the causes of this situation, analyzes the positives and negatives of the original curriculum from an autopsy, compares teaching concepts in neighbouring countries and suggests possible solutions for reviving the teaching of this artistic field.
